Change a childs life and foster

All Foster Carers receive an allowance to reflect the cost of caring for a child. The level of allowance varies according to the age of the child. The allowances are designed to cover all aspects of the cost of caring for a child.
An additional allowance will be made for a child on, or over their birthday, during Christmas and during the summer holidays. Every April, allowances are reviewed in line with government legislation.

As a foster carer you will NOT be eligible to claim Child benefit for any child that you care for.

All allowances received in respect of the child are tax free and WILL NOT affect Welfare benefits.

Payment for skills
In addition to the childs allowance, Foster Carers receive a fee (known as a banding payment) for each full week a child is placed. This fee has a criteria attached to it, which allows carers to progress up to a top level of £300 per week depending upon the skills and experience of the foster carer. Only one payment is made per week, irrespective of the number of young people placed.

Band A £75.00
Band B £125.00
Band C £300.00

Support Carers
As a support carer you will receive £50 per 24 hour period of care given to a child or young person in your own home or, for a 4 hour stay at your home you will receive £25

Short Break Care
An increased allowance is given due to the additional needs of the child/young person. The allowance that you receive will reflect the amount of time the child or young person stays in your home.

Between 1 6 hours £14.40
Between 6 12 hours £21.60
Between 12 24 hours £35.80

Other benefits
Redcar & Cleveland approved foster carers (living within Redcar & Cleveland or in other local authority areas) will receive a monthly exemption on their council tax up to an annual amount of £1,500.
