East Cleveland Klondike GP

Date Sunday 29th April 2018

The Klondike Grand Prix forms part of HSBCs Elite Cycle Race Series. The route has been designed to take in as many of our beautiful villages and the spectacular scenery we are so privileged to live within. However, by passing through so many residential areas and by finishing with several circuits around Guisborough Town Centre, it presents a highly technical challenge with regards to closing the roads.

We need help from mature, responsible volunteers.

  • Roles will vary, from working with the traffic management Team out on the main course, to covering junctions in the Town Centre.
  • Community Traffic Management will provide input to all volunteers, to ensure that every volunteer fully understands (and is 100% comfortable with) their role.
  • We also require Race Ambassadors (Games Makers) to assist in Guisborough on the day to promote the event and answer questions members of the public may have again volunteers will receive a full briefing on this
  • This is a genuinely exciting opportunity to get involved with a professional cycle race. You will be fully prepared and briefed to carry out the various roles, all of which will (effectively) consist of explaining to motorists what is occurring and how long for.

For more information about the Klondike please visit:

Leisure and Tourism

Volunteers needed for Redcar Beacons

Volunteers are needed to join the pilot scheme for Redcar Beacons. This is a "Street Ministry" where teams of up to four people, wearing high visibility jackets will provide a caring presence in Redcar Town Centre. To start with it will be on a Friday night between 9.30pm & 3am approximately until the scheme develops and we have enough volunteers to cover two nights each week.

Volunteers will offer support and practical help to those who become vulnerable for various reasons. An important aspect of the role is to build good relationships with members of the public, pub & club owners, taxi drivers, police & emergency services & any other associated organisations. Volunteers will not be required to deal with any medical emergencies or dangerous situations themselves but will alert the appropriate service.

Training is required & offered on Conflict Management & First Aid, to help volunteers identify & deal with the first stage of action required. Any incidents witnessed will be recorded by the volunteer & discussed with the team leader. New volunteers will always go out with an experienced team leader.

Another important aspect of this work which needs volunteers is for people to be at the base. This will be the hub of the project where we would like 2 people to make drinks for the team on the streets; those being helped & door staff for example.

Volunteers could be required to listen & perhaps give out information leaflets about any appropriate helping agencies, including churches. All volunteers will be subject to criminal record checks and must be a least 18 years of age. It is important for volunteers to be non-judgemental and to respect peoples confidentiality.
