Guisborough Town Hall Background Information

Redcar and Cleveland Council purchased Guisborough Town Hall in 2015 having identified the importance of the building to the town and to save it from ongoing deterioration. Surveys and urgent works were then carried out to make the building safe and watertight.

Along with this building being of central importance to the town and community, we believe that it is essential for Guisborough Town Hall to once again fulfil its community potential. The Town Hall has a long history and one that is intertwined with the heritage of Guisborough. The regeneration of the Town Hall offers real opportunities to take this building into a new era for future generations to enjoy and be a part of whilst acting as a catalyst for the history of the town to be told. We hope that with the community driven regeneration of the Town Hall it can become a central hub to help stimulate both the community and visitors to take full advantage of the area. If Guisborough Town Hall can once again become a central hub, there is no limit to what Guisborough can achieve in fulfilling its heritage potential.

Consultation events and tours of the town hall took place on the 20 and 21 June 2016 followed by a feedback workshop at Sunnyfield House on Tuesday 12 July 2016 to present the results of the consultation and discuss the options.

The following report presents the results of the consultation feedback:

As a result of this, the Guisborough Town Hall Gateway Project group was set up. This community reference group is driving the vision and direction of the Guisborough Town Hall project. More information about the group can be found here.
