Sportivate is a nationwide campaign that forms part of the 'Places, People, Play' Olympic legacy programme developed by the Government and Sport England. Sportivate will provide teenagers and young adults 11-25 opportunities to participate in regular sporting activity.
Sportivate supports the Play strand of Places People Play and will directly contribute to the mass participation legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Sport England will invest £32 million of National Lottery funding into the programme.

Who is Sportivate for?

Sportivate is a programme aimed at 11 to 25-year-olds (the key period during which people drop out of sport), which seeks to engage them in regular sports participation. With a particular focus on those who are not regularly participating in sport, the programme will offer 6-8 week courses of high-quality coaching sessions.

At the end of the coaching, they will be supported into a local club or alternative community provider to continue their participation.

Where will Sportivate activities take place?

  • Sport Clubs
  • Local Authorities
  • Leisure facilities
  • Youth Clubs
  • Secondary Schools / Colleges / University
  • Groups / workplaces representing 11-25 year olds

When will it all start?

Sportivate is a four year programme that commenced delivery in Redcar and Cleveland and across the Tees Valley in July 2011 and will run until March 2017.

How will it be delivered?

Year 6 Sportivate plans have been developed by the Health Improvement Team who work in partnership with a number of key agencies to ensure the programme reaches out to as many young people aged 11-25 as possible. The Health Improvement Team has worked with National Governing Bodies of Sport, local community clubs, youth groups, charities, schools, colleges and universities and other organisations to build sports programmes based on local need and provide quality pathways for young people to continue playing sport.
