Fire Safety at Home

There is support available to keep you safe at home.

Often victims of home fire fatalities are known to local social care and housing organisations. Cleveland Fire Brigade work with The Council to identify vulnerable members of the community who may be at risk.

Cleveland Fire Brigade can visit you in your home and give you specific fire safety advice for you and your household. This advice will help you to prevent a fire in your home and also assist you in planning your escape route if a fire does occur. Where necessary they will also provide and fit smoke alarms.

Cleveland Fire Brigade work with older people and people with disabilities to discuss the risks of fire and to look for any visible warning signs. They also work with carers to ensure they have the relevant knowledge and skills to get themselves and the person they care for, out safely in the event of a fire.

Stay Warm and Safe

Did you know there are over 25,000 deaths caused by fuel poverty?

If you, a relative, friend or neighbour are finding it difficult to keep warm in the cold weather, Cleveland Fire Brigade may be able to provide temporary heating, lighting and much more. Call 01429 874063 to find out more.

Oxygen Use

People prescribed with Oxygen present an increased fire risk in the environment in which the oxygen is used. Oxygen does not itself explode or burn, but it does enhance the flammable properties of other materials such as grease, oil and cigarettes and supports combustion.

It is therefore essential that the users of oxygen and their carers are aware of the fire risks associated with oxygen use. Talk to the professional supplying the oxygen to get information about how to minimise the risk and telephone 01429 874063 to find out more.
