This is a comprehensive study undertaken in 2001/02 to determine the economic regeneration and housing situation in Greater Eston.

CBL: Choice Based Lettings
The Government's housing policy places considerable emphasis on the themes of choice and responsibility. One element of this agenda is changing the mechanisms by which households access social housing. Social housing has traditionally been let using bureaucratic allocation systems administered by housing officers. Choice Based Lettings is an alternative approach to encourage choice and allow applicants to play a greater role in the process of selecting their home.

This is a consultancy specialising in housing research.

HBF: House Builders Federation
This is a national organisation that campaigns on behalf of it's members who are largely house builders.

LSVT: Large Scale Voluntary Transfer:
The transfer of all of the Council's housing stock to a newly established local housing company. This occurred in 2002 when the housing stock was transferred to Coast & Country .

B&B: Bed& Breakfast accommodation
This is a form of temporary accommodation that the Council uses for emergencies only for people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.

RP: Registered Provider
These are non-profit making housing providers who rent homes to residents throughout the Borough. These are also known as housing associations.

LA: Local Authority
The Local Authority for this area is Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.

HIP: Housing Investment Programme
This is the Council's allocation of housing budget to fund home improvements and housing renewal activity throughout the Borough. This was replaced by SHIP in 2005/06.

This is a group of organisations with an interest in the prevention of homelessness and the delivery of homelessness services.

HB: Housing Benefit
This is a type of benefit to assist residents in paying rent for their home.

LHA: Local Housing Allowance
Local Housing Allowance is the new way of working out Housing Benefit. It is for people who rent their homes from a private landlord, who are on a low income and need help to pay their rent.

BVPI: Best Value Performance Indicator
These are national targets set by Government for all local authorities to measure.

SHIP: Single Housing Investment Pot
This is an allocation of housing budget which local authorities have to bid for to fund home improvements and housing renewal activity throughout the Borough.
