Environmental responsibility

We are all responsible for the environment around us. We all contribute to the harm that is being done to our global home by burning energy and using wasteful products. You can also do your bit to reduce the harm that mankind is doing to the Earth.

When Shopping:
  • Find out more about the environmental effect of the products you buy.
  • Avoid products with unnecessary or wasteful packaging.
  • Re-use carrier bags.
  • Look out for eco labelled goods.
  • Try to buy seasonal produce if you can.
  • Source local produce where possible this is not only good for the environment but for the local economy too.
When Gardening:
  • Start a compost heap or bin if you can.
  • Plant trees if you can to absorb carbon dioxide however, be careful not to plant them to close to your house.
  • Don't burn anything in your garden - you can get rubbish collected by contacting the Council's Cleansing Section
  • Be careful with all garden chemicals, and never put any left over chemicals down the drain.
  • Install a water butt in your garden to collect rainwater from your roof and use this to water your garden.
Looking after the area we live in is not only good for the environment but it makes it a nicer place to live too:
