Tees Valley Enterprise Zone

The Tees Valley Combined Authority has been established to help attract real investment and growth to the area, and deliver significant job opportunities by 2015 and beyond. It includes 12 individual sites across the five Tees Valley Boroughs, and offers financial incentives to qualifying businesses by way of business rate discount or enhanced capital allowances. The Enterprise Zone is being delivered by the Tees Valley Local Authorities in partnership with the Tees Valley Combined Authority, the Local Enterprise Partnership.

In Redcar and Cleveland, there are three sites included in the Enterprise Zone. Kirkleatham Business Park has been designated as a business rate relief site, whilst sites at South Bank Wharf/PD Ports and Wilton International have been included for enhanced capital allowances.

Qualifying businesses locating on Kirkleatham Business Park will benefit from up to five years business rate discount, providing that they are within one of the target sectors i.e. petro-chemical, renewable energy or advanced engineering. Meanwhile, sites at Wilton (for energy production) and PD Ports/South Bank Wharf (for renewable / advanced engineering) will offer large-scale occupiers enhanced capital allowances against the cost of their plant and machinery.

All Enterprise Zone sites have the advantage of simplified planning regimes to help attract and support growth and the development of small and medium enterprises. A local development order has been prepared to support the site at Kirkleatham Business Park, which removes the need to apply for permission in most circumstances. The Council also intends to work closely with developers and landowners for the other sites at Wilton and PD Ports/South Bank Wharf to bring forward development through Planning Performance Agreements.
