Small business rates relief

From 1st April 2017 Small Business Rate Relief is available at 100% for ratepayers occupying single properties with a rateable value up to £12,000, with relief declining in percentage terms on a sliding scale from 100% relief at £12,000 (or less) to 0% at £15,000.

Properties with a Rateable Value of £15,001 to £51,000 will have their bills calculated using a Small Business Rate multiplier.

Restrictions apply and if you have more than one business premises the rateable values of your other premises will be taken into account when deciding relief. Small business rates relief can only be allowed on one property. If you are eligible for other reliefs such as charitable relief or rural relief, these will also be taken into account.

Small business rates rules are set each year by central government and may be subject to change.

If you have any changes in your circumstances you need to tell us. Examples or changes in circumstances are as follows:
  1. Where the Rateable Value of any property you occupy in Redcar & Cleveland or any other local authority increases.
  2. Where you occupy any additional business premises in England.
  3. Where you occupy any premises which you had listed as empty on your application form for Small Business Rate Relief.
  4. Where there are any changes or additions to the liable parties or any changes to your company name.
