Recycling FAQ's

check before you chuck

I recycle a lot and would benefit from a larger blue bin, am I able to have one?

Yes but unfortunately this would be at charge. To exchange your bin for a larger one would cost £22, unless you meet the requirements for a larger bin. The requirements are as follows:
  • 5 or more permanent residents in the household
  • If someone within the household has a medical condition which causes the volume of waste to increase.

I don't have a recycling bin, can I have one?

Yes, but there may be a charge for a new recycling bin. Please call our Contact Centre on 01642 774774 or email Contact Us for further information or to order a new bin.

What will happen if I put the wrong items in my blue bin?

Unfortunately, we will not be able to empty your blue bin, if it contains items that are not currently accepted as part of our recycling contract. If you are unsure of what items we accept, check our what can go in your blue bin and caddy page.

Why can't I recycle all recyclable items which contain the recycling logo?

We can only recycle items that are accepted by our recycling centre.

Why can I only recycle bottles, pots and tubs ( excluding black plastic) in my blue bin, why not other plastics?

Although we aim to recycle as much as possible, when it comes to recycling plastic things get little bit more difficult. There are many different types and grades of plastic that are recyclable, so our household items can differ. For example, many of our bottles are made from a higher grade plastic than items such as yoghurt pots. When it comes to processing different grades of plastic melt at different temperatures, meaning that they cannot be recycled together. To keep them in co-mingled collection is not effective or efficient as it increases our costs.

Can I recycle wrapping paper and greetings cards?

Yes, as long as they don't have glitter etc on them. Plain cards/wrapping paper can be recycled as usual but anything else should go in your regular waste.
