Trading Standards

Our aim

To promote a Fair & Equitable trading environment for consumers and traders in Redcar & Cleveland.

How will we do this?

Working together with our key partners we will carry out a programme of risk based interventions aimed at the deterrence of transgressions of consumer law to help protect the honest business and local consumers.

We will achieve this by means of appropriate and proportional advice, persuasion, education, publicity or, as a last resort, by using the legal process through the courts if necessary.

How can we help each other?

We work in partnership with the Citizens Advice Bureau who now provide the official, publicly funded consumer service for England, Scotland and Wales.

We ask that consumers and businesses call Citizens Advice Consumer Service (formerly Consumer Direct) for any Trading Standards related matters, including any complaints, requests for business advice and consumer advice enquiries. Citizens Advice will give you first tier advice and will be able to pass on any appropriate complaints/enquiries direct to us in Trading Standards. Call 03454 04 05 06 to speak to the Citizen Advice consumer helpline for free and confidential information.
