Be a Health Champion

Health Champion
The scheme is open to all people who live or work in the Redcar & Cleveland area.

What are community Health Champions?

They are people who volunteer to inspire and motivate their friends, family and colleagues to lead healthier lives. They help people to access the right information and signpost them to other services if needed.

Do I need any qualifications?

No! You do not need any prior knowledge of health issues. You will receive some initial training and have the opportunity to undertake further training in areas that interest you. Some training may enable you to gain qualifications.

What happens after I am trained?

You will use your new skills and knowledge to promote healthy lifestyles within your community when opportunities arise. We will give you support, regular information and access to resources. There is already a supportive network of existing Community Health Champions and you will be invited to join our fun get-togethers.

Christine Stubbs, one of the ladies in the poster is a current health champion, and offers support and advice to family and friends in the South Bank area where she lives. Christine works closely with the Health Improvement Team to alert of us of any health issues in her area and as such we have implemented awareness sessions at a local primary school at her request. She has also promoted some local fitness class and gym opportunities in the area and has been successful in finding enough people to create a new fitness class in South Bank.
