Adoption

Change a childs life and foster

The following pages will give you a range of information about adoption and the services that we have in place to support you before, during and after the Adoption process.

Redcar & Cleveland is a small Local Authority in the North East of England. However we place approximately 15 to 20 babies and children into adoptive homes every year, therefore we are always seeking to recruit more adopters and will accept applications from within a 100 mile radius of our Borough.

Adoption provides permanent homes for children who through no fault of their own are not able to live with their own family. Most of the children who are waiting to be adopted will have been removed from their parents through the Court system. Each will come with their own family history, background and personal identity which will have shaped their experiences and behaviour, all of this will impact on the adoptive home and will require patience and understanding to increase the chances of a successful adoptive placement.

Within the Team we are committed to keeping to Government time scales which is on average 6 months. This is likely to be a busy time for both the potential adopter and ourselves: however we think it will also be very rewarding for those on the journey to adoption.

For more information about adoption, please telephone 01642 771500 to talk to one of our team, or you could call for a chat with one of our social workers in the Adoption Office at Seafield House, Kirkletham Street, Redcar, Yorkshire, TS10 1SP.
