South Tees Area Masterplan SPD

In August 2017 the South Tees Development Corporation (STDC) was established on a statutory basis to lead the comprehensive regeneration of an extensive area of land adjacent to the south bank of the River Tees comprising the former SSI steelworks and adjacent landholdings. The STDC is granted a range of powers under the enabling legislation that established the body. However, with the agreement of the STDC, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council (RCBC) will continue to act as the local planning authority for the STDC area in respect of planning policy and development management and the processing of planning applications.

At the request of the STDC, RCBC have been invited to prepare with STDC, and adopt, a SPD to support regeneration efforts and underpin the determination of relevant planning applications within the STDC area. The purpose of the SPD is therefore to steer the industrial led regeneration of the STDC area, in accordance with the spatial and employment land strategies defined by policies LS4 and ED6 of the emerging Local Plan. In doing so, the overarching objective of the SPD is to ensure that development within the STDC area supports its comprehensive regeneration and appropriately address relevant planning, design, infrastructure and environmental issues.

To date an initial draft of the SPD has been published for early and informal consultation, following which it will be refined and a formal consultation will take place in early 2018 on the SPD in tandem with an associated Environmental Report. Further information can be found below:
