Sanctuary Scheme

Domestic Abuse is now the second main reason for homelessness within Redcar and Cleveland. Many victims of domestic abuse feel that they need to move as they are in fear of the abuse. Development of a Sanctuary Scheme offers an alternative option for victims and can help to reduce the disruption and cost of moving.

The scheme aims to make it possible for victims and potential victims of domestic abuse to remain in their home and feel safe. This entails the provision and installation of security measures to a residents home which in turn will hopefully deter the perpetrator from any repeat incidents and allow the resident to feel safer in their home. .

What is a Sanctuary?

Every Sanctuary Project is tailored to meet the needs and circumstances of the individuals involved.
The main features are: - A safe room a room within the home, which is made extra secure, where a victim is able to call & wait safely for the arrival of the police.

The Sanctuary Scheme is now delivered on behalf of the council by Foundation UK Telephone:- 0300 456 2214 or email in order to apply for Sanctuary works.

Foundation UK will make arrangements with the Crime Reduction Officer (CRO) to carry out a property survey and risk assessment.
Temporary refuge accommodation can be arranged through Foundation UK for clients who still feel threatened and are at risk of further violence whilst they are waiting for an assessment and for the agreed measures to be installed.
