Coat of Arms Arms
The main shield shows six fleurs-de-lis representing six former districts united to form a new district and the prison gate used on the Great Seal of the original Wapentake of Langbaurgh. The crossed pickaxes depict the association of the East Cleveland area with the former ironstone mining industry.

The crest is a clipper ship, taken from the former Redcar Municipal Borough shield, denoting the areas close affinity with the sea. The helm is that of a knight of Saltburn.

The Lion represents the strength of purpose of the area. The Cleveland Bay stallion signifies the agricultural aspects of the area. The two small shields held by the beasts represents the major industries of the area - iron and steel and chemicals.
