School crossing patrol

Redcar & Cleveland Council runs the School Crossing Patrol service and we escort over 21,000; full time primary / secondary children across busy roads every day.

Did you know that the School Crossing Patrol Service has more than 68 patrols in operation, crossing thousands of children safely to and from school each day of term - and in all weathers too!

We recruit from a wide age-range of people and new patrols are always needed, both for specific sites and to carry out relief work (to cover holidays and sickness).

If you would be interested in becoming a school crossing patrol then please see our page on School crossing patrol vacancies and job description or alternatively call Bev Brown, School Crossing Patrol Co ordinator 07799657184.

Would you like a local school crossing patrol officer to visit your pre school or nursery to talk about their job role under People who help us syllabus?

In 2008 the Highway Code adopted the stick positions pioneered by Redcar & Cleveland Council. Do you know what the positions of the lollipop stick mean?
