School Nursing Service for Young People Aged 11-19 Years

The School Nurse drop-in is a confidential and accessible service that offers health advice and support for young people aged 11 to 19 years old.

If you are worried about your health, or just have a question relating to growing up and being healthy you can either access your local School Nurse drop in service or contact your school nurse on 01642 444011.

School nurses are specialists in delivering health advice for young people and have a good knowledge of local services that provide specialist advice.

School Nurses take an active role in representing health in accordance with the local Child Safeguarding Board Policies and Procedures, supporting vulnerable children and young people.

School nurses have three main roles:

We aim to provide a service that is teen focused, caring and compassionate. Every school in the Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council area has an allocated school nurse and you may see them around school doing assemblies, health promotion and providing support to young people.

School nurses are employed by the local authority rather than the school, which means that they can offer a confidential service. This means that you can discuss personal information in private. If we feel that a young person is at risk of significant harm then we would need to share this information with appropriate professionals. Wherever possible, we would discuss this with you first. Any contact with you is recorded on a computerised, confidential health record.

The kinds of things that young people come to see us about are:

We are an experienced, professional and skilled team who are here to help you. The school nurse can see you in a school, health setting or another venue of your choice.
