Coastal Communities Fund

Businesses and communities in Redcar, Coatham and East Cleveland are being encouraged to bid for a share of £90million government funding, available over the next four years, to drive economic growth and regeneration to their coastal areas.

The UK Government introduced the Coastal Communities Fund in 2012 to support economic development projects in coastal areas across the UK. Over 218 organisations have been awarded grants in this time to a value of £125 million. In Redcar and Cleveland, the fund has previously supported a number of business, landscape and tourism developments as well as providing funding for the Kirkleatham Catering Academy.

Round 5 of CCF launched in England on 26 February 2018 with £40 million available to spend from April 2019 to end March 2021.

Funding is available to projects over £50,000 that will ultimately lead to regeneration and economic growth whilst directly or indirectly safeguarding and creating sustainable jobs.

Within this round 5 there are 2 separate funding rounds, each with their own timetable:
· A fast track early round for revenue projects only for which some funding will be available in 2018 to 2019. Stage 1 closing date 2 April 2018.
· The main funding round for which funding will be available from 1 April 2019. Stage 1 closing date 30 April 2018.

Projects seeking CCF funding for capital work involving land, buildings or other construction-related work should ideally have secured full Planning Consent (including any Listed Building and Conservation Area consents) by the stage one application deadline. At the very least, projects should have submitted an application for full Planning Consent by the stage one deadline, in order to be able to meet CCF timescales and requirements at stage two.

By the stage two application deadline, capital projects should be developed to RIBA Stage 4 (https://www.ribaplanofwork.com/), have achieved full Planning Consent (including any Listed Building and Conservation Area consents), building regulations full plans approval and have consulted on any other consents (such as Marine Licence, Crown Estates Consent, Harbour Licence etc).

Further information on the Coastal communities Fund, including the application forms, deadlines and guidance notes are available on the Coastal Communities Fund website https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coastal-communities-fund-round-5

Coastal Community Teams (CCTs)

In 2015 the UK government launched an initiative to create Coastal Community Teams across England to enable local communities to come together and develop a common vision and plans for their coastal area. Over 100 applications were approved and each team was tasked with agreeing their priorities and producing an economic plan that would be the basis of their ongoing activity.

Details of the CCTs and their plans can be viewed at http://www.coastalcommunities.co.uk/coastal-community-teams/

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council were successful in their application for two Coastal Community Teams, one covering Redcar and Coatham and the other covering the East Cleveland Coast area. The Council is working in partnership with the CCTs as they drive their economic plans to help bring sustainable jobs, tourism and economic development to the Coastal areas.
