School lays foundations for future

EXCITED pupils are set to return to a new-look school next week, thanks to a £420,000 project.

Chaloner Primary School, in Guisborough, is now based on a single site after a new foundation unit was created at its Wilton Lane home.

And youngsters will get their first glimpse of the improved facilities when they return from their summer break on Monday, September 5.

As well as the foundation section for three to five-year-olds, the revamp has included an extension providing a reception and cloakroom area.

The school's staff room has also been extended, while extra parking spaces have been created.

Monday will also mark the start of demolition work on the school's former premises at Kings Base, Park Lane.

Headteacher Angela Hull said: "Our school has operated from two sites for five years, with the older Kings Base facing considerable condition issues. We now have some wonderful new facilities that will benefit both pupils and staff.

"Children will no longer have to move to 'another school' as they progress through the class years and families will benefit from their children all being on the same site. It is great that the younger children are now able to mix with the older children on a daily basis."

Councillor Joan Guy, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Children's Services and Education, said: "Bringing the whole school together on one site is a fantastic development, which I'm sure will allow Chaloner to continue to strive to give pupils the best possible start in life."
