Published: 6th Sep 2010

REDCAR & Cleveland Borough Council is offering you the chance to enjoy the local countryside with its varied history and wildlife, as it hosts the Annual Walking Festival between Monday, September 13 and Friday, September 17.

Each walk will be accompanied by an experienced guide, who can show you the best of what the Borough has to offer:
  • Rosecroft Ramble Monday, September 13 - A 4-mile ramble through some of Loftus lesser-known ancient semi-natural woodlands through Rosecroft Woods to Holywell Farm, returning to Loftus along Loy Lane.
  • Warsett Hill Walk: Tuesday, September 14 - This is a fairly gentle 9 mile walk, which takes in Huntcliff at Saltburn, walking along part of the Cleveland Way National Trail, with splendid views of the North Sea. At the village of Skinningrove the Walk joins the Cleveland Street Trail towards Brotton and returns to Saltburn via Saltburn Gill.
  • A Trek around the Top: Wednesday, September 15 - Enjoy the breathtaking views of the river Tees and all of its industry, overlooked by the stunning scenery of the Cleveland Hills on this 8-mile walk around Eston Hills and the surrounding farmland. Learn about the native wildlife on the rare, lowland heath habitat as well as the ancient and more recent history of the moor.
  • Meandering through Medieval Skelton: Thursday, September 16 - Join Tees Archaeology staff on a 1.5 mile walk to explore the medieval origins of
  • Skelton and discover the lost town. There will be an opportunity to visit the old All Saints Church. Please note: there is a steep climb on this walk but there will be rest stops at points of interest.
  • Three Peaks Challenge: Friday, September 17 - A strenuous 11 mile walk to the Three Peaks of Guisborough - Roseberry Topping, Hanging Stone and Highcliffe, taking in a rich variety of habitats.
The views along the route are fantastic. Please note there are several steep climbs along the route.

Each walk starts at 10am with the Three Peaks Challenge starting at 9.30am.

Booking is essential, as spaces are first come first served. Each of the guided walks cost £2 and cash payments can be made in person at Guisborough Forest and Walkway Visitor Centre, Pinchinthorpe or Flatts Lane Woodland Country Park Visitor Centre, Normanby.
