MUSEUM visitors will be stepping back into Anglo-Saxon times this weekend with a series of events celebrating one of the region's most important exhibitions.
Kirkleatham Museum, in Redcar, is home to the Saxon Princess display which showcases an astonishing collection of artefacts uncovered in Loftus between 2005 and 2007.
The finds, which include rare pieces of jewellery from the final resting place of a seventh century princess, were made by archaeologist Dr Steve Sherlock.
And he will be on hand at the museum on Saturday, October 22, for a host of activities commemorating the internationally-renowned exhibition.
Dr Sherlock will give talks on the discoveries and their importance in the museum's pavilion at 11am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm.
Local artists Bub Bacon and Bozz Holliday will be running Saxon-inspired stained glass window workshops between 10am and 3pm, with visitors' creations to go on display at a later date.
The Beowulf story will be told by artist Tanya Bentham throughout the day, while the St Cuthbert's Land re-enactment group will stage military training displays at 11am and a mock battle at 3pm.
Children will also be able to dress up in period costume and make jewellery with artist Sally Drinkell.
All activities are free. For further information, contact the museum on 01642 479500.
