A family have moved into their dream home thanks to Redcar & Cleveland Council and Coast & Country.

The Council took the decision to enforce the sale of a long term empty property using powers available to them under the Law of Property Act 1925.

Coast & Country subsequently purchased the house and welcomed new tenants today, Monday 30 July.

The three bed terraced house had been stood empty for six years and became a blight on the area leading to a significant number of complaints from local residents.

Now the Wilkinson family, who were previously living in cramped conditions, are moving to the property in Roseberry Crescent, Whale Hill.

Electrical engineer Jamie and Helen, a cleaner, have four children 11-year-old twins, Nathan and Jordan, Jack aged six, and Joshua, aged two.

Cabinet Member for Housing and Neighbourhood Renewal, Councillor Lynn Pallister said:

"It will be great to see the property come back into use and provide much needed accommodation for local people.

The Council and its partners are always looking to bring long term eyesore properties back into use and where necessary will take action against absentee property owners."

Coast & Countrys Chief Executive, Iain Sim commented: "It is fantastic that we and the Council have been able to provide the Wilkinson family with a spacious newly refurbished home.

"Previously, their housing circumstances were far from ideal as they were having to house share with relatives which meant their accommodation was very cramped.

"This is an excellent example of how social housing companies offer much-needed support and affordable homes for local communities."

Jamie Wilkinson said: "Moving to this house is a dream come true. The house is really comfortable and roomy and perfect for my family."
