Celebrating Yorkshire Day

The North Riding group of the Yorkshire Ridings Society will be selling artificial white roses on Redcar High Street during the morning of Saturday, August 1, alongside the Redcar Ladies Lifeboat Guild, to raise money for Redcar Lifeboat.

At 11:34am the Yorkshire Declaration of Independence will be read out at the Town Clock.

The celebrations then move on to Saltburn Valley Gardens where a Summer Fayre will be held from 12noon to 4pm. Craft stalls and kiddies rides will be open from 12 to 4pm and there will be crafting activities for children. Traditional sports will be held between 1 and 3pm and owls from Kirkleatham Owl Centre will be on the lawn in front of the Valley Garden Tearoom for most of the afternoon.

The North Riding Duck Race will start at 2:30pm in the Beck - sponsor forms from Cllr Chris Abbott, Tel 487557, or ducks can be "bought" on the day. The winner will receive the Colin Holt Cup and there are prizes for the first three places and for the duck with the most original name.

Yorkshire Tea and cakes will be availlable in the Tearoom all day.
