Pupils savour a taste of the orient

Published: 30th Jan 2012

CATERING staff ensured celebrations of the new Chinese Year of the Dragon were a roaring success - by dishing up an array of Oriental cuisine for pupils.

Schoolchildren across Redcar & Cleveland tucked into a variety of gastronomic treats to mark Chinese New Year.

Staff from Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council's School Catering Service staged a series of special themed lunches, even dressing up in traditional attire for the occasions.

Pupils savoured everything from chicken chow mein and beef in black bean sauce to sweet and sour chicken and Oriental stir fry.

Councillor Joan Guy, Cabinet Member for Children's Services and Education, said: "Our catering service does a fantastic job in promoting healthy eating to schools throughout the Borough.

"The Chinese New Year celebrations allowed the staff to do this in a fun and interesting way, which hopefully gave the children some real food for thought.
