THE result of the Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council Newcomen ward by-election is as follows:
Matthew Bennett (Conservative Party candidate) - 76 votes
John P Hannon (Labour Party candidate) - 539 votes, elected
David Robert Stones (Liberal Democrats) - 484 votes
Turnout was 33.88 per cent.
