Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council has been consulting with the residents and businesses of Saltburn to seek their views on proposals to introduce parking changes in the Town.

A pre-consultation exercise was carried out through December and January with a number of events taking place for people to find out more information about the proposals.

Cabinet member for Community Protection, Councillor Steve Goldswain, said: "Around 2,000 responses were received as part of the pre-consultation and it is clear from this that further detailed work with stakeholders needs to be carried out.

"At the request of many of those that responded to the consultation a closer look at the impact of the proposals especially in relation to the local economy will be undertaken."

The Council is set to commission an independent market research study which will take the form of a survey of visitors, residents and businesses in Saltburn.

The Council has set aside up to £20k for this but would hope to come in under budget. As the work will be carried out independently from the Council this will come at a cost.

Councillor Goldswain, added: "This is a key piece of work that will leave us with an evidence based economic footprint for the town. The work is likely to be completed by June as we need to ensure that the research takes into account the low and high seasonal demand."

Once the research is finished a report will go to the Council's Cabinet outlining the findings, at this point cabinet will be asked decide if the proposals or any amendments go to statutory consultation.
