Creative industry set to flourish

Published: 23rd Aug 2011

THE Mayor and Leader of Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council will visit the derelict Palace Theatre on Redcar seafront on Thursday, 25 August, to check on progress made as the building is demolished to make way for an £8.3 million Hub for the creative industry.

The demolition being carefully managed by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council contractor, Surgo Construction Limited, is due to be completed in October when construction work will start on the exciting new base for creative talent in the area.

Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Councillor Mark Hannon said:

"The Hub is part of the £75 million of investment in Redcar over the next three years the largest ever regeneration in the history of the town.

This exciting new centre will allow the creative industry in the area to flourish creating 60 new jobs and supporting 150 businesses when it opens next year.

The Council have already spoken to hundreds of firms during the planning stage and have had dozens of expressions of interest to occupy work space in 'The Hub'.
"

Jeff Alexander, Director of Surgo Construction Limited said:

"Surgo Construction Limited are delighted to be working on this development especially as we have a track record in delivering prestigious projects throughout the North East including the Kings Academy in Middlesbrough and Bishop Auckland College.

During construction we are committed to undertake a joint training and employment programme and involve local people by organising site visits, presentations and work experience placements.
