The Friends of Zetland Park have come up trumps again! They are delighted to unveil a new addition to the many fantastic features they have created in recent years. A Sensory Garden will now stimulate all your five senses. Touch, Taste, Sound, Smell and Sight will now be part of your visit to the park.

Suggestions for the garden came from discussions with members of the community and the dedicated fund raising work of the Friends Group has managed to secure a total of £800 for the project which has been made up from contributions from both Redcar Area Environment Committee and the Voluntary Community Sector Grant Program.

The garden is made up of 5 specific areas which have been planted with dedicated species designed to provide stimulation to the senses of the garden users and will add a valuable contribution to the educational aspect by providing learning opportunities for people young and old visiting the park for generations to come.

Zetland Park is a popular local park that boosts a play area, an outdoor gym and a Trim Trail, tennis courts, a bowling green and beautiful flower beds. This new additional will delight all those that visit. The garden will be officially opened by the Mayor of Redcar & Cleveland, Councillor Olwyn Peters on Wednesday 2nd May at 2pm. Everybody is invited to come along on the day and join in with the opening ceremony.

Council Leader, Councillor George Dunning said "The support for this park is amazing. The equipment and attractions continue to improve and delight residents and visitors alike. The number using the park just grows and grows and that is all thanks to those that love and campaign for these fabulous extras"
