The Planning Strategy Team is responsible for all matters relating to planning policy in Redcar and Cleveland (excluding the part within the North York Moors National Park). We prepare the statutory development plan that sets out the long term land allocations and other planning policies that will guide development proposals in the borough and against which planning applications are determined.
Local Plan
Work has commenced on the preparation of a new Local Plan that will eventually replace the Local Development Framework as the statutory development plan for the borough. These changes are being made in response to the Government's National Planning Policy Framework, which was published in March 2012.
The first stage in preparing the new Local Plan is the Scoping Report, which has been published for consultation on 1 November 2012 and runs until 10 December 2012. All of our consultations will be carried out in accordance with the Council's Statement of Community Involvement, and will be published through our Planning Consultation Portal
The timetable for preparing our Local Plan and other planning documents is set out in the Local Development Scheme. Our Local Plan will be based upon a sound and robust evidence base to ensure that it promotes the sustainable development that our communities need. The progress we make in preparing our documents and implementing our policies is set out in an Annual Monitoring Report.

Local Development Framework
The Local Development Framework is a series of Development Plan Documents setting out the Council's adopted policies and proposals that make up the statutory development plan for Redcar and Cleveland. Our Supplementary Planning Documents set out guidance for implementing our policies.
