How to join

It's free!

There are 13 libraries in Redcar & Cleveland plus our bookbus travelling across the borough. It's free to join and anyone can be a member. Just bring along something with your name and address (if you are under 17 you will need an adult to sign for you), fill in a simple form and in less than a minute you'll be a member.

You can then use your ticket in any library in Redcar & Cleveland details of all of our libraries can be found by clicking on the link at the end of this page.


What can I borrow?

You can borrow up to 10 books on your ticket free of charge. You can also hire up to 2 DVDs

What's more you can take them back to any library in Redcar & Cleveland.


What's in it for me?
  • Books something for everyone, from best sellers to classic, non fiction and children's books
  • Talking books on cassette, CD or MP3 format favourite books read to you. Available free to people who have a visual impairment, they may also be hire for a small charge.
  • Large print books for adults and children
  • Information - local, national, international in a variety of formats from paper to electronic
  • Language courses a hire charge applies

What if I can't find what I want?

Our trained staff are there to help you, whatever your query.

If you can't find the book that you are looking for on the shelf we can reserve it for you (for a small charge) and then let you know when it arrives. We will even try to get hold of books from other parts of the country if we don't have a copy in the borough.


And that's not all!

Computer and the internet are now available in all libraries. Charges do apply for adults wishing to use a computer (booking is advisable). The charges are £3 for 3 months use, £10 for 12 months use or £1 for half an hour for visitors and unregistered users. It is advisable to book in advance to guarantee availability.


What about people who cannot get to a library?

The mobile library reaches villages and communities which are not near to a branch library. For further details call 01642 483326
