Highways Design Guide and Specification

The Design Guide and Specification is intended to be used by architects, engineers, planners and developers in the preparation of schemes for new development. The Guide indicates the minimum standards of the Highway Authority to ensure adoption under Section 38 of the Highways Act 1980.

This document has been produced and is regularly updated by a working group from the following Authorities:

• Darlington Borough Council ^†
• Hartlepool Borough Council ^†
• Middlesbrough Council ^†
• Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council
• Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council †

The standards and specifications are applicable to the five Councils subject to the local variations detailed at the beginning of the document.
