In Redcar & Cleveland there are a number of long term empty homes. Empty homes are a wasted resource as they could be used to meet housing need and they present a loss of income for the owner who may rent or sell the property.
In addition, empty homes can have a negative impact on residents living in the neighbouring vicinity and the wider community. As an authority we recognise that we can play a major role in attempting to return empty homes to use.
