Local HealthWatch Consultation

What is HealthWatch?

From April 2013 we in Redcar & Cleveland will have a Local HealthWatch which will play an important part in improving health and social care services in the Borough. This is our response to the Health and Social Care Bill 2011 which seeks to ensure patients and the public are at the heart of everything our health and social care services do.

What will Redcar & Cleveland HealthWatch do?
  • Provide information and support to help you make the right choices, for example, what to do and where to go for health and/or social care services
  • Provide a contact point for everyone who wants, needs, or has used health and/or social care services
  • Listen to your experiences (good or bad) of these services
  • Make these service providers aware of what you think and, when appropriate, hold them to account and help put things right
  • Provide the help and support you need to make complaints about NHS services
How will it do this?
  • Feed in your views to the Redcar & Cleveland Health and Wellbeing Board, which brings together the people who plan and run services, elected Councillors and patient champions to make important decisions about local services
  • Work closely with both HealthWatch England and the Care Quality Commission the national watchdog for health and care services
  • Be an organisation which is independent of both the NHS and the Council
  • Involve a wide range of organisations and individuals who volunteer to be involved

Give us your views
To help us make sure that Redcar & Cleveland HealthWatch meets your needs, the Council is inviting you to help shape the future by giving us your views.
  • Were asking just a few simple questions such as . . . . .
  • What do you want from Redcar & Cleveland HealthWatch?
  • Where do you currently get information and advice about health and social care?
  • Which individuals or organisations do you think would best represent your local community?
  • What things would attract you to help with the work of Redcar & Cleveland HealthWatch?

This consultation took place in two phases.

Phase one: September 2011 to April 2012
Phase two: April/ May 2012

Redcar & Cleveland LINk

Until April 2013 the Local Involvement Network (LINk) and PCT Patient Advice Liaison Service (PALS) continue to exist. The Redcar & Cleveland LINk is there for you, listening to what you have to say about health and social care services in the Borough, as well as helping you to be involved in the planning and delivery of these services locally.
