Local Access Forum

The Local Access Forum advises the Council on improving access to public rights of way, countryside sites other green spaces so that they can be used enjoyed by residents and visitors to the area.

The Forum is made up local people and the Council's cabinet member for Rural Affairs. It has balanced representation of landowners or managers and public rights of way and countryside users as well as other interests, such as heritage, local businesses or tourism development.

There are normally three meetings a year and these are usually held in Belmont House, Guisborough on the third of fourth Thursday of January, May and September. Meetings are open to the public and normally last about two hours.

As the "Appointing Authority" Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council must have regard to any relevant advice given to it by the Forum, as must other bodies such as Government Departments, Natural England, the Forestry Commission, English Heritage, Sport England and Town or Parish Councils.

In giving advice to any of these bodies the Forum must consider the needs of land management, conserving the natural beauty of the area and any guidance given to Local Access Forums by the Secretary of State for the Environment.

If you would like further information or advice about the work of the Local Access Forum or if you have an interest or experience in any of the areas mentioned above and might like to be involved please contact the Council's Public Rights of Way Advisor.
