Garden Waste Wheeled Bin Scheme

Winter Suspension of Garden Waste Collections 2012-2013
Please be advised that this service will be suspended for the Winter months and no collections will take place during December 2012, January 2013 or February 2013.The decision to implement this service suspension has been based on volumes of green / garden waste generated during the winter months and the Councils drive to reduce costs and improve efficiency as a whole.
Information about the scheme

It is important to look at other ways of managing our waste and protecting the environment. Recycling garden waste has proved an invaluable source in reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.

After paper, garden waste forms a substantial amount of the waste collected. If this is sent to landfill it generates methane gas which adds to global warming. To help make Redcar & Cleveland a cleaner, safer and greener place, the Council provides an alternate weekly waste collection service for properties with gardens.

We are unable to collect any bin containing unsuitable materials. Please ensure that you do not put any unsuitable materials out for collection.

Yes but only in small amounts. Please note it must be placed in bio-degradable bags otherwise we cannot collect it. For large amounts, you can use our Household Waste Recycling Centre.

What should I do if my normal wheeled bin starts to smell within two weeks?
It shouldn't if you bag everything up and double wrap, particularly smelly items like chicken or fish, ensure the lid is always closed, and stored out of direct sunlight preferably, you should have no problems.
