What can you offer to schools?
The School Nursing Service works in partnership with children, young people and their families to ensure that children and young people are in optimum health to support their learning and development.

School Nurses work in School Health teams based within the three localities of Redcar and Cleveland. Each Primary and Secondary School has an allocated named School Nurse. The school nurse works within a team, which comprises of School Nurses, School Staff Nurses, School Nurse Assistants and School health Clerks. Kirkleatham Hall School and Kiltonthorpe School have a fulltime school nurse based within the school supporting Children with more complex Health Needs.

Core School Nurse Service includes:
  • Delivery of Department of Health Immunisation Programme
  • School Health Entry Questionnaire
  • Screening of Vision / Hearing and Growth at School Entry
  • Targeted health assessment
  • National Child Measurement Programme at School Entry and Year 6
  • Assessment & Individualised Health care plans for all children with Health needs ie Life Threatening Allergy / Anaphylaxis, Severe Asthma, Epilepsy and Diabetes
  • Early intervention of health needs and targeted intervention and support when additional needs are identified / CAF / Child Wellbeing
  • Supporting children, young people and their families where Safeguarding needs are identified
  • Assessment / sign posting / liaison and referral to a wide range of services including Speech and Language / Child Health Paediatric Services / GP / CAMHS / Social Care
  • Health Promotion both with individual children / young people / families and groups including specific work on
  • Hand Hygiene / Healthy Eating / Dental Health
  • Puberty
  • SN support when able SRE sessions
Open access to School Nurse Service via School Health Drop in within school / self referral / referral to School Nurse service from another agency / direct telephone contact to School Nurse team
