REDCAR & Cleveland Borough Council is planning ahead - to host Yorkshire Day celebrations on Friday, August 1, 2008.

The Council has accepted the invitation from the Yorkshire Society to welcome the event to the Borough, along with 250 civic heads for a church service and a parade to a lunchtime banquet.

The Council's Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Renewal, Councillor Chris Abbott, who is also the chairman of the Yorkshire Ridings Society, a similar group to the Yorkshire Society, told councillors: "This is a wonderful opportunity for our Borough and whoever will be our Mayor to welcome around 250 civic heads and dignitaries to a celebration for Yorkshire Day.

"This has been an annual event at towns across Yorkshire and there will be no cost to the Council, funding will come from sponsorship and the sale of tickets for the banquet."

Discussions will now begin on finding suitable venues for the big day.
