We're ready for Alice!

Published: 26th May 2006

HUNDREDS of Redcar &Cleveland schoolchildren from five primary schools will be half term stars, taking centre stage at the Middlesbrough Theatre for three nights next week.

Sell-out audiences are predicted for Alice, The Musical when the curtain goes up on the latest annual production, co-ordinated by self-employed music teacher Chris Nixon, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The community project has involved over 400 youngsters from Coatham, Dormanstown, Wilton, Zetland and Lakes primary schools as well as community groups, Topline Commuunity Arts Project and Coatham and Dormanstown Community Partnership.

Rehearsals for the two-hour performances, featuring drama, music and dance, backed by a band made up of local teachers, have been organised since January. Ticket sales will help fund the £12,000 performance, backed up by a series of fund-raisers.

Chris explained: "We've got 400 youngsters being creative, developing confidence and self-esteem in a fun and educational way - isn't that fantastic. I'm absolutely delighted with the end product - it's going to be an excellent show."
