Brotton ward election recount today

REDCAR & Cleveland Borough Council will complete its election count at Eston Town Hall this afternoon (Friday, May 2).
Votes for the three seats in the Brotton ward were counted three times at the Redcar Bowl before the Council’s Returning Officer, Chief Executive Colin Moore, decided just before 3am to reschedule the next recount for the Town Hall’s Committee Room One at 2pm today.
Already, the impact of the borough’s first postal ballot, which attracted a 51.5 per cent turnout, a big improvement on the 1999 turnout of 37 per cent, is that the Council must operate with a ‘hung’ administration after Labour lost its overall control.
The state of the parties changed from Labour 31, Conservative 14, Liberal Democrat 11, East Cleveland Independent 3 to Labour 22, Conservative 13, Liberal Democrat 13, East Cleveland Independent 4, Eston Independents 3 and Marske Independent 1, with three seats still to be declared.
