Remembrance Walk of the Great War

Join a walk in Redcar cemetery to remember local men lost in WW1 who are commemorated on the headstones. Walk led by one of the Friends who will recount the stories of people commemorated. The day will begin with a parade of ex-services associations, standard bearers, veterans and cadet forces that will commence along Redcar high street and the immediate area. The day will then be officially opened by the Mayor of Redcar & Cleveland Council, followed by a thanksgiving prayer.

Talk Club - Sir William Turner and his Schools by Peter Chester

The generosity and foresight of Sir William Turner led to the creation of a succession of schools in the Redcar area, from the 17th century to the present day. This illustrated talk offers a whistle-stop look at those schools, with a particular emphasis on the period on the boys' schools of 1868-1975.

The true meaning of the name ‘hospital’ is a place that offers hospitality. When in 1858 the ladies from Coatham opened their house in Middlesbrough for the sick and injured they couldn’t call it an infirmary because they had no medical training. They called it a hospital and that name has come to mean a place of healing and care.
